WOW2: Women Pioneers of May and Events in Our History

“I don’t understand anti-abortion arguments centered on the sanctity of life. As a species, we have demonstrated quite comprehensively that we do not believe in the sanctity of life. The bullish acceptance of war, famine, epidemic, pain and lifelong poverty shows us that, whatever we tell ourselves, we have only made the faintest efforts to truly treat human life as sacred. – Caitlin Moran, “How to Be a Woman”

WOW2 is a four times a month sister blog to This week in the war on women. This edition covers women pioneers and the events of May 25 to May 31.

The Next WOW2 Edition will display
Saturday, June 4, 2022.

The purpose of WOW2 is to discover and honor successful women, including those who have been ignored or marginalized in most history books, and to mark moments in women’s history. It also serves as a reference archive on women’s history. There are so many more phenomenal women than I ever dreamed of finding, and too often their stories are almost unknown even to feminists and scholars.

These pioneers have much to teach us about perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds. I hope you find as much inspiration as I do in reclaiming our past..

May is Women’s Health Month

Health care decisions should be made by women, with their doctors and families, not by politicians. Lawmakers should stop playing politics with women’s health and lives.

– Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood (2006-2018)
