Looking to the Future: UGA and Athens Events This Week | Campus news



The news bureau has compiled a list of events taking place throughout the coming week that are open to the public. The list includes the Wild Rumpus Halloween Parade and Party, a Halloween-themed bike class, and a talent showcase by the Black Affairs Council for minority students at the University of Georgia.

Sunday October 24

Athens to Savannah walking tour

What: the last of a three-day, 235-mile trip from Athens to Savannah. The ride will raise funds for the new Hi Lo Trail, which will connect to the Firefly Trail in Athens. This is the longest paved multi-use trail in the United States. The 2021 route will start at Jittery Joe’s Coffee Roaster in Athens and end on River Street in historic Savannah. Sign up online here.

Global Georgia Briefing

What: Free info session for a new UGA Spring Break program featuring international business experience, networking opportunities, and company tours across Georgia.

Health and Wellness Yoga # 2

Cooking class in the nutritional kitchen of the CHU

What: Halloween themed cooking class on “Pumpkin Pancakes, Mummy Wrapped Sausages and Spooky Spiders” hosted by the UHC Health Promotion Department. The course is $ 5 for students who have paid health care fees or $ 10 for students without fees. Register with the health promotion department of the CHU at 706-542-8690.

Culinary showcase of the city center

What: Culinary showcase to support small businesses in Athens and showcase locally made food, hosted by The Culinary Kitchen of Athens. Vendors will include The Witch’s Wonder Emporium, Pop’s Socks, and The People’s Produce. This event is recurring every Tuesday.

Mocha for mid-term

Embrace diversity

What: The UGA Institutional Diversity Office and the President’s Office are hosting a virtual celebration of the Faculty and Staff Graduates of the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate. Nature hikers

What: The Nature Ramblers is open to everyone to learn about the natural areas, flora, and fauna at the Georgia State Botanical Garden. The event will be hosted by retired conservation botanist Linda Chafin, biologist and naturalist Dale Hoyt and Don Hunter, photographer and naturalist. This event is recurring every week from Thursday to November 18. The event is free, but donations are accepted.

Spooky Cycle Show

What: Free Halloween themed bike lesson for all Ramsey Center members. Disguises are encouraged. Pre-registration is required for the event.

Haunted Zombie Farm Trail

What: Zombie Farms Halloween Haunted Trail features mazes, backdrops, stories, and actors on this three-quarter-mile walk for families and friends. Zombie Farms will be open every Friday and Saturday evening in October. Tickets are $ 20 to $ 25 per person.

IGB Concert Series

What: The International Grill & Bar hosts their summer musical series with live music from Tracy & Jeff. The event is free and for all ages. Various other acts will occur until December 4.

Live Music: DJ Mahogany Halloween Party Night

What: Free Halloween party with music by DJ Mahogany and drink specials. At the end of the night, a “Wild Rumpus” parade will begin on West Hancock Ave. in downtown Athens with parade performers, music and entertainment and will end on W. Washington St. in Pulaski St. for a great night of DJ dancing in the street. The party will feature The Booty Boyz and DJ ChiefRocka with lights and aerials on the trapeze. Masks are required and a Pfizer reminder pop-up site will be available.

UGA alumni eve party
