Big Rapids Community Library

Knitting evening: 6-8 p.m. Nov. 3, every first Thursday of the month. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. Not just for knitters, but for all types of crafters!

International Games Day: 3:30 p.m. on Fridays, November 4 and 18. Come celebrate International Games Month at the Big Rapids Community Library by playing one of our new board games! Our Switch console will also be available at that time. From the age of 8.

Classic cinema: 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 17. Join the Big Rapids Community Library to watch a classic movie in our Community Room. Find title information on the library’s website ( under Adult Programming.

Dino-Riffic Craft Day: Wednesday November 23. Become a dinosaur at the library! This craft will be available all day on the first floor.

Families against narcotics: 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29. Your mental health matters. Families Against Narcotics presents Hope-Not Handcuffs with Regional Director Ryan Reblin. Hope-Not Handcuffs is a program that changes the way law enforcement treats people with substance use disorder. We will also learn about FAN’s services for individuals and families affected by substance use disorder.

Go bananas! Introducing our new literacy kit for 5-10 year olds. Each kit includes activities that work on building vowels and vocabulary using bananas. These kits will be available from Tuesday, November 1, on a first-come, first-served basis. Note: No actual bananas are available in the kits.

Next chapter, A junior book box: Choose a book box based on a favorite book series, genre or author and find something new! Just stop by the loan office and ask for one. Included in each box: two (or three) library books that will be borrowed on your BRCL library card and some fun goodies! New boxes will be available monthly and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Treasure hunt, Dinovember: The dinosaurs have invaded the library and are playing hide and seek on the first floor! Can you find them all? Stop by the loan counter throughout November to pick up an activity sheet. Once all the dinosaurs have been found, turn in your completed sheet for a treat!

Storytime with Mr. Howard: 11 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Join us for stories, movement, music and more in the BRCL Community Hall. (There will be no story time on November 23.)

The library will be closed on Thursday November 24 and Friday November 25.

Author John Wemlinger: 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1. Local author John Wemlinger is a retired US Army Colonel with 27 years of active duty. He is the author of five novels in which he writes about what he knows best: American veterans and the problems they face. Four of his books have won awards, including his most recent novel, The Cut, which was named by the State Library of Michigan as a 2022 Michigan Notable Book. “Tigers Stadium History: A Baseball Love Letter to Michigan and Trumbull:” 4 p.m. Thursday, November 3. Doc Fletcher will share stories from the book of characters on the field, in the stands and those in the neighborhoods surrounding the ballpark, as well as broadcasters who brought us the action when we couldn’t be there ourselves. Edmund Fitzgerald’s story with Mike Fornes: 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8. Hear the stories of the crew members and their families.
